A drier Austin, a hotter Texas...
Climate change reports suggests state's growth fuels future woes.
Scientists from around the world laid out the causes and future of global climate change in a report on February.  The results suggest that Texas, with its booming population and flourishing industries, may become the victim of some of its success.
The report, released by a panel of scientists that were assembled by the United Nations, does not address climate change state by state.  But the phenomenon will have concrete consequences for the state, according to Texas scientists:  Austin will get drier, and water in Central Texas will grow scarcer... If Texas were its own nation, it would be the seventh-largest emitter of carbon dioxide in the world.  According to the latest reports, the evidence for global warming is "unequivocal," and temperatures "have increased markedly as a result of human activities." Intergovernment Panel on Climate Change (PCC) WGI Assessment Report states that "Warming of the climate system is unequivocal, as is now evident from observations of increases in global average air and ocean temperatures, widespread melting of snow and ice, and rising global average sea level...Eleven of the last twelve years (1905 - 2006) rank among the 12 warmest years in the instrumental record of global surface temperature (since 1850) (surface temperature: The average of near surface air temperature over land, and sea surface temperature."

An increasingly Warmer Planet
The leading international network of climate change scientists has concluded for the first time that global warming is unequivocal and that human activity is the main driver.  They said the world is already committed to centuries of warming, shifting weather patterns and rising seas, resulting from the buildup of gases in the atmosphere that trap heat.  "It is very likely that hot extremes, heat weaves and heavy precipitation events will continue to become more frequent" stated the scientists. "...this is real, this is real, this is real," said Richard B. Alley, one of the lead authors and a professor at Penn State University. "So now act, the ball's back in your court."

According to the US Department of Energy, many households could save 20-30% on their household energy bills by implementing energy efficiency improvements.  By installing cost-effective energy upgrades, an average home can reduce energy bills by as much as 15% – 50% while increasing comfort levels. http://www.eere.energy.gov/consumer/
"Climate change is a global problem that requires action from the leading emitters, starting with the world's biggest source of greenhouse gases, the United States", stated Professor Webber, director of the Center for International Energy and Environmental Policy at the UT's School of Geosciences.
